Ray Hallett

Medical Orderly, Royal Air Force, 1940–1946

Ray volunteered for the RAF in 1940, aged 20. At first he wanted to become a pilot but his background in dentistry qualified him to become an RAF medical orderly. 

Ray completed his training at the RAF School of Tropical Medicine at Halton, Buckinghamshire, before being posted to India. He served with Air Command South East Asia during the Burma campaign, working in one of the RAF’s mobile field hospitals.

Ray left the RAF in 1946. After returning to England he worked at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton for
28 years.
